As part of its efforts to increase information services for bicyclists, MRT Inc. has begun a program of providing segment maps, soon to be posted on the organization’s web site www.mississippirivertrail.org. The site currently has maps of most of the 10 Mississippi River states, indicating the general alignment of the MRT and its status—whether posted for cycling, under development, or not recommended. The later series of segment maps provide information for a 30-60 mile segment, or about a day’s ride for a cyclists. The maps will feature information on amenities and attractions that riders may enjoy, as well as clear depictions of the segment’s beginning and ending points. Prudent riders will, of course, supplement these new maps with other sources of information to ensure that their trips are safe and enjoyable. Segment maps will be posted as they are available, so check back to the MRT web site often to see if we’ve mapped the section you plan to ride. For more information, call the MRT office at (479) 236-0938, or email teastin@lynks.com.
