The Mississippi River Natural and Recreational Corridor Project, supported by the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation, is hosting a series of key meetings along the length of western Tennessee during the month of April. The project is designed to create a natural tapestry of special sites and places that meet exceptional user enhancement standards along the River.
In addition to Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation, the project is also supported by the Memphis Regional Chamber/Foundation, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area. Their mission is "to conserve the natural corridor along the Mississippi River in Tennessee while we create ways for people to access, experience, enjoy and learn about the Tennessee stretch of the Great River."
Working hand in hand with Mississippi River Trail, Inc., this project will expand the face of recreational opportunities along the river in Tennessee while providing a substantial economic development boost, as well as expanding trail and other recreational opportunities. The corridor will be designed as a “wayfaring system” of scenic, interconnected roads, trails, waterways and greenways.
